Coding Over The Summer Holidays!

As we reach the end of July we know that everyone is getting excited for the summer holidays! The break means lots of fun is to be had, but it also means there’s a change in routine. You may be wondering - how can I keep up with my coding over the summer? That’s where we come in!

Here at The Code Zone we have lots of fun ways to continue coding, and we wanted to take a moment to highlight all of the ways that you can take part!

Take part in a Game Jam!

We love the summer holidays because it means that we get to launch our next Game Jam. We give you a theme, it’s your job to create a brand new game that fits that theme. It’s open to all coding abilities, and you have the choice between working in Scratch or Python. Our coders love to get creative and our mentors love looking at all of their finished projects! 

You can ask our mentors questions through the chat if you ever get stuck, and you can also use our handy base games if you need a hand getting started. Taking part in a game jam is a great way to exercise those coding muscles in a new context, plus it’s always brilliant fun! The best part is that the Game Jam is FREE for anyone to join!

The next Game Jam theme is going to be announced very soon, so keep your eyes peeled…

Check out some coding skills!

Ever wondered how to add a specific feature into your game? Maybe you’re desperate to learn how to make a character jump, or you think that a boss battle would take your game to the next level? That’s where our coding skills come in!

All you need to do is log into the dashboard and go to the “My Code” tab; from there you can find coding skills for Scratch and Python. Coding skills are really helpful for developing as a coder, and you could even incorporate them into your Game Jam project!

Join our weekly clubs!

Our live online clubs continue running every single week during the summer holidays; this means more fun games, more opportunities for creative coding, and continued support from our fabulous mentors. Joining our clubs is a fantastic way to develop coding skills and have fun in a super welcoming environment! 

Over the summer we know that sometimes you may not be able to attend your usual club, so we’re also happy to help you reschedule to a more suitable time so you don’t have to miss out on any of your sessions. If you haven’t had a chance to check out our clubs before then don’t forget to book your free taster session to see what it’s all about!

Build mods in Minecraft Mod Club!

We LOVE Minecraft here, and we know a lot of our members do too! What if you were able to code your own minigames that you can then play in Minecraft?

Well that’s exactly what Minecraft Mod Club is for! With a subscription you get access to Minecraft Education Edition, special mods with instructions for how to build them, and minigames that you can code and play! There’s tons to explore, and as always you can message us on the dashboard if you need any help with building your code.

There you have it - school is out but that doesn’t mean we have to stop coding, and The Code Zone is here to help you make your new game ideas a reality. We can’t wait to see what all of our coders get up to this summer, and we hope you all have a fabulous break whatever it is that you get up to!
